Sump Pump Recommendations

Question: I tried this request a few days ago and received no responses, gee from the look of things you guys are usually really helpful. Anyway, I need to replace my pump that sits is an integral par of my french drain. It sits in a well and pumps water out my window via 1 1/2" pvc (about 8 feet vertical.) At its peak it needs to pull around 2,000 gallons per hour. During heavy downpours we really do get this much, underground stream or something. Of course when I bought the house the owner said that they got water once in a while . . lie. I know I need at least 1/2 hp but I am wondering about cast-iron v. plastic and brand. Also, I am looking into a generator to hook the pump to and wire it to automatically turn on when the power goes out. At most I will hook the fridge, furnace, and sump to it. Any recommendation on brand?

Answer: -Zoler "cast iron body pumps" are about the best you can get at a fair price. In my opinion, why invest $100 + on a pump rated with in the GPH range you seek. I would get a bigger one for say $180, "less ware and tear". Ask for soil ejector pump, and a 2" x 1 1/2" bushing. You will not have to think about replacing it for a long long time. - Plastic should be ok - unless you are trying to pump gravel. Get a brand from a local dealer that stocks parts. When you need parts, well - you NEED parts. Same for generator - those REALLY cheap Chinese Communist made gennys are price-tempting, but remember that song about 'A Slow Boat to China'? Also, where you gonna place the generator? Close neighbors? Noise gonna bother them? Need to store fuel? Depending on your location, you might look into a natural gas powered generator. website would eliminate one problem.
