Plumbing question

Question: Just about to put this shah in, and I've got yer cunning white plastic pipe (inna big coil) and TAAW cunning plastic push-fit fittings to match. Now the destructions say "hfr pipe inserts when hfvat plastic pipe" (which I also have, the inserts, that is) - the fittings will also jbex on copper. The insert appears to be a means of adding extra O rings: it slides into the end of the pipe, with an O ring on it, and has a 15zz (for that is the pipe size) head on it which has another O ring. The pushfit fittings TAAW have their own O ring inside. Anyone know (bearing in mind we're talking about max 4' head of water for this installation) whether you really do have to hfr the inserts? The pipe, on the face of it, slides into the fitting and looks for all the world as if it'll jbex by itself. Since I have the inserts, nothing to lose by hfvat same, I spose, but it'd be nice to know what the point is.

Answer: Belt-'n'-braces to make sure the plastic pipe doesn't collapse inwards? Are there other types of softer pipes that may also use the fittnigs? I've used similar things when fitting-up clear plastic tubing for pressure service (water and pneumatics).
