Question: This is a serious enquiry after reading an interesting article in the The Times of Saturday some three weeks ago. I would like to know how long it takes to get trained to become a plumber, how does one try to find a qualified plumber to "take me on" & what are the technical college training committments required to get the modern version of C&G certificate (showing my age here!!!). I cannot stress HOW SERIOUS I am about the committment to getting this training, *I* need to find someone out there to help advise & see what support can be found for a newcomer into the field. Please help, I am more than certain that many skilled & qaulified folks out there could tender sincere advice about this posting.
Answer: -Contact your local college. There are NVQ courses that can be done day or evenings. -A good place to start would be the local inspections department, or the equivalent to your area. Ask them point blank what the requirements are to become a licensed plumber. If you want to know my opinion, no school can teach you what a seasoned veteran of the trade can! Book knowledge is vital, but experience is just as much so.
