Bathtub drain clogged (snake?)

Question: I have a clog that drain cleaner won't clear. I assume some sort of "snake" device would work. Where would I buy something like that and where would I get it?

Answer: - Most areas have plumbing codes which require provisions for physical access to bathtub drains just for situations like yours. If you can reach the drain piping you should be able to take apart the trap and clear the clog. Traps on tubs are often "drum" types which can not be snaked clean. Check in the walls around the drain end of the tub, maybe in a closet. You should find a removeable panel that will access the piping. If its an upstairs bath, check for access from below, too. -I had a similar problem and tried every septic-safe cleaner I could find but no luck. I finally bought a six foot snake (at Home Depot for about 5-6 dollars). I re- moved the cover plate to the overflow/vent pipe and ran it down in there. I was suprised that it didn't pull up a bunch of junk, but it did the trick. It seems that something had backed up into that portion of pipe and stopped it from venting and allowing the drain to work, although the pipe itself was clear.
