Question: When I was in Ashford last year I noticed just outside the station advertising hoardings proclaiming "MacArthur Glen Designer Outlet Village - Opening Soon". Anyone know when it is opening? MacArthur Glen have another site in Swindon, which attracts a lot of visitors, so Ashford should do well out of it. Designer Outlet Village is a more trendy name for Factory shop and also an excuse to keep the prices close to that of the high street retailers. The prices look cheap because they are quoted alongside the MRRP which no one ever sells at. For example Levi jeans MRRP is £50 (as quoted in Daily Mail recently), price at Swindon £40 with lots of mention of the 20% discount to tempt the gullible, price in the high street anything from £40 to £45. Shoes seemed to be where the bargains were. I bought a pair of Ecco's which I'd seen in Bromley at over £100, I paid £60 at their outlet shop in Swindon. My son done even better paying £29.99 for a pair of Rockport shoes which we later saw in a branch of Russel & Bromley at £129.99.
Answer: No, though building work continues apace. I would guesss the opening would be either just intime for Christmas, or 1st quarter next year.
