wet carpet basement because of sump pump problem

Question: The vertical pipe that takes water from the sump pump in my basement came apart at a joint. This joint was just above the back-flow valve. The existing pieces were joined with a clamp. I think that over time, the clamp came loose and water flowed out onto the area around the sump. Now, I put the joint back together with pvc cement and reclamped it. Seems to hold. But the carpet was soaked, not a lot but enough. I vacuumed it out with a wet-dry vacuum. Got about 10-12 gallons out. The carpet is still damp and i have 2 pedestal fans going to dry it out. The total area around the sump that is damp is about 30-40 sq ft. 1. Do I need to lift up/remove the carpet? or will it dry out over time? 2. If I don't need to remove the carpet, any other way I can dry it out? Using a dehumidifier didn't seem to help. Ran it all night and not a drop of water in the pan. Probably because dehum does not work for dampness of carpet/floor, only off walls/air ?

Answer: It may be too cold for the dehumid to run. If you leave damp carpet it will likely develop bad molds that will haunt you for a long time. If you can't take the carpet outside, can you lift it up (like on saw-horses) to dry?
