Answer: My system consists of ten traction and one hydro cars in a common hatch. The sump pit that was constructed with the building is 4X4X4 with a 2.5 hp pump. this pump discharges to an ejector pump that was located directly behind the hatch. According to the Pennsylvania, USA inspectors office, sump pumps are no longer allowed to be installed in elevator pits in Pennsylvania, they insist that water infiltration be stopped before it gets into your hatch. (easier said than done). The sump pump in our building has been grandfathered. The codes differ drastically from state to state. Your elevator contractor or state inspector would be your best source of information.
