 | Frugal remedy to unclog drains? |
Question: My drain is clogged. Anyone have a frugal (and perhaps environmentally friendly) solution?
Answer: -If you can remove or open the trap thingy under the sink you could try a toilet snake. -Stick the end of a garden hose down the drain. Wrap a rag around the hose, and push it firmly into the drain to seal around the hose. Plug up the overflow, if any with another rag. Turn on the water to the hose. - Actually, the clog is usually right in the trap itself. Pull it off and take it outside for a good hosing. Another place where things get clogged is on the down pipe from the sink. Hair and soapy gunk get built up around the tube and closer mechanism. There is a thingy that fits on a garden hose and shoots out a concentrated stream of water. Works pretty well to knock the stuff off the down pipe area. Try Lowes or Home Depot.
