Hot Water Heater prices?

Question: The hot water heater is melting... So, I called Home Depot and found out I can get the GE top of the line, 12 year (extended to a lifetime warranty, labor, service and parts by Home Depot) with installation and delivery $714.00 As long as I live in this house I will never have to buy another hot water heater, and it is self-cleaning, so no maintenance, and everything is fully covered. Is this a good price? My other option is: Replace the one which is still under warranty, but I have to pay labor, delivery, and I would have to upgrade because it is just under six years old and they no longer make this model. I don't yet have a price for the warranty install, but what would be YOUR price cut off before you would go with the Home Depot deal?

Answer: -I've never paid more than $200.00 for a hot water heater...... but mine generally get replaced about every 5 or 6 years. If you really think this one will last forever, go for it. -I just installed two tankless heaters. You might give some thought to them. Sure saves a lot of energy not keeping a tank of water hot all day (and night) when you're not using any. I love the ones I got. I bought Takagi brand, but several are available. You should find several if you check google.
