Question: Somewhere between the gas hot water heater and dishwasher I have a problem. The dishwasher hangs in the last part of its cycle because the water temperature isn't hot enough. Our local appliance repairman has verified this. The recommended solution was to set the hot water heater for a higher temperature. The hot water heater has now been raised all the way to its maximum temperature setting and still the problem persists. The shower water is hot enough to the touch, but does not threaten to scald. If this were an electric hot water heater I would suspect that one of the elements was gone or going out. I am not familiar with what might be the cause in a gas heater. An added piece to the puzzle is the there is a circulation pump on the hot water line to provide "instant" hot water to any faucet. It actually works quite well. I tried the dishwasher with this pump running and not running, there is not change in the result. Any suggestions?
Answer: -Gas control valves (thermostats) are notorious for getting out of calibration. They are very sensitive to stresses on the valve housing and even a mis-aligned gas connection can adversely affect the calibration. If the water can't be made scalding even at the highest setting, I suspect the control may need replacement or re-calibration. -If your water temp is ok maybe its the d/w. If the d/w hangs in the rinse cycle it is possible the water temp boost system of the d/w is failing. the d/w should boost the temp of the water with no problem unless the initial water temp is very low. (below 105).
