Question: Does anyone remember Josephine the Plumber? I think she died some time ago, but was flashing back to those old commercials, and it dawned on me that Rhea Perlman would be perfectly cast as Josephine (if someone saw big bucks in making a production of her life NOT). Kind of like a grown up Shirley Temple with an attitude. How about Madge? She was the manicurist who used to soak ladies hands in Palmolive dish soap, which was supposed to be better than any salon treatment, blah blah blah. Whatever happened to her? She comes to mind because she was THE original gossip.
Answer: -Madge died around 10 years ago. Josephine the Plumber was played by Jane Withers, one time child star who coincidentally once co-starred with Shirley Temple. Jane is alive and well, last time I heard. - I can contribute to this topic! Madge was played by actress Jan Miner, who has indeed done a fair amount of stage work (I met her while she was doing Cat on a Hot Tin Roof at Long Wharf Theatre) and films (Mermaids, Lenny), and as far as I know is still very much among the living... at least she was a few years ago (1994, I believe) when she did an episode of E.R.
