Question: I am putting in a new installation sump pump in my garage. It will be a submersible pump. I've noticed that there are a number of brands and power levels available on pumps. I expect the pump to run a few times a year, but when it does, I'd like to know that it's going to work. So, does anyone have any thoughts on brands to look for or avoid? Also, is there a conventional wisdom that says that pumps of less than a given power are not well built? For example, if a 1/3 hp unit will move all the water I ever expect to the height that I need, is it adequate or should I look at a 1/2 hp because it's a more robust piece of equipment?
Answer: - you are really over thinking this. just buy a pump at the store and put it in. -Zoeler or Myers sump pump with 1 1/2" discharge will do you just fine and 1/3 hp is enough. More hp will be ok if you just want to spend the extra $$
