 | Water softener dealers near Boston? |

Question: We have moderately hard water (66mg/L) with very high Manganese (.64mg/L). It appears the staining we're experiencing can be handled by a standard water softener (no special filters). There are four of us in our house and I've done a bit of research - a Fleck 5600 with 30k grain capacity seems like a good system and can be gotten from various internet stores for ~$600. I live in Massachusetts and I believe that our code requires the softener to be installed by a plumber. I've called a few and they say they don't handle water softeners. The dealers I've contacted (two) both want about $2500, which seems high. Any recommendations for reasonably priced dealers?
Answer: Then I suggest you install it yourself or hire a plumber to do it and don't pay anyone that much money for a residential water softener. You barely need a softener, that's less than 4 gpg of hardness. What's the TDS and pH of this water? And would you like to save a few bucks (e-mail works)?
