Landlords plumber damaged furniture

Question: I've got a situation where my landlord sent round a plumber to carry out some maintenance on our boiler - and in the process of doing so he scratched our glass dining table (looks like he put his toolbox on it - the table is next to the cupboard where the boiler is). The scratches are not repairable as they are too deep so essentially our table is ruined - I'm not hopeful about having any comeback as how on earth would we prove conclusively who scratched it? All we can say is we went to work in the morning with a table in pristine condition, and came back to a deeply scratched one. And of course with no proof that it wasn't scratched before. What would you recommend our best course of action would be?

Answer: -Contact your landlord first. I got home to find a load of my stuff got nicked while some of the landlords agents where there. To my suprise he just paid me for the lost items. -Polish out the scratches as far as possible and turn the glass over.
