 | Wood filler using plumbers putty |

Question: I have been told by a professional cabinet maker that he uses plumbers putty mixed with stain to fill holes in wood. He suggested that I stain our new from door and all of the trim and then fill the holes later. I did the staining as he suggested and now am ready to do the filling. I bought a small can of colored filler today and worked on the lower holes. I think that I can do a pretty good job with this filler before I put on the sealer. The idea of using the soft plumbers putty, at least for the larger holes does not seem like such a good idea as these filled holes will be exposed to lots of sunlight.
Answer: - Well it will soft of work, but remember that plumbers putty is not designed for the job and it is designed to never harden and remain soft. Most wood workers prefer a material that will harden to match the wood. -You can buy painters putty same thing but for wood .Or just buy colored putty paint store or Home crapo will have . You better put at least one coat off finish on first before you putty or you will have big smear spots. The putty will smear into the wood. 1 stain 2 sanding sealer 3 finish 4 putty 5 finish 6 finish . you can do a light sanding between coats 220 grit . It's allot of work but the results is worth it
